The Arty Blogness of Ansate Jones

england trip: new england

so by now everyone’s probably forgotten that back in september i made it back to the homeland as well as the motherland. here’s the first round of pictures, from NEW england (sorry to be such a tease but don’t worry– more are coming!):

part 1: davis to danvers

introducing: PSI. at the airport. god i was so sick of airports by this time.

jess and hooman win for cutest couple.

ken and hooman feed each other with popcorn. check this out; you can totally see the arcs the popcorn kernels make as they fly through the air!

next 2 pages: rockport

part 2: bearskin neck

my dad has strange decorating sense.

and he’s apparently just as into meta-art as i am.

look! my parents salvaged my funeral cone from my waltham to california move! they hadn’t told me about this, so it was a pleasant surprise to see my old friend again. even if it is orange now! if you look really closely you can see the vertical “funeral” still bleeding through the orange. fantastic!

i love this picture of ken.

my mom hates having her picture taken.

unless it’s with flowers.

or she’s selling something. that’s a uv lamp, by the way. she got this nail polish that supposedly changes colors in the sun, but i guess she keeps forgetting about the dangers of uv when she demonstrates it to customers.

pictures within pictures grab me.

the davy jones, a building my parents own that’s adjacent to the shop (and which they’re STILL fighting the town council to get the rights to fix up). we had a friend named margie who used to sit on the deck down there and meditate. she rocked.

part 3: out and about the coasty area

at the mexican place in peabody

my parents are cute, but i couldn’t get ride of the spots of light on them so i just made this a small triptych.

those lumps are sleepy cats. i originally wanted to get just them, but then got enthralled by the typical rockport driveway.

and this, for contrast, is the idyllic rockport driveway. i made them stop the car and wait to take this one. i felt a little creepy doing it though.

small coastal town is not complete without a piece of clothing on a pole. ken pointed this out to me (he knows me well).

the sunsets there– beautiful doesn’t cover it.

next page: rolling rocks

part 4: rolling rocks

rolling rocks (or whatever it’s called) deserved a page all its own– you can hear the rocks clatter and rumble as the tide moves in and out. sorry about all the pictures; i was really taken by the scenery and how “new england beach” it all looked that day. with the gulls, and the green frothy waves, and the blue sky and red rocks. perfect.

taming the wild waves…

next: the dreaded family dinner!

part 5: the parents meet!!!!

so i had this wacky idea that my parents and ken’s parents should meet at some point; seeing as how we’ve been dating for almost 5 years now? this was a good opportunity; both sets would want to send us off to merry olde england, and we didn’t want to leave anyone out. and you know, it actually went well!

doesn’t ken look thrilled??!?!!?!?

scary moments happen when dads talk.
