England Day 2: London!

unfortunately i can’t remember most details of where or of what these pictures were taken… and i took a ton. yes, there really are that many pages.

Tower of London

goofing off before the yeoman tour starts

a collapsed wall?

next page: more tower!

Tower of London

sucks to be that guy, eh? i tended to say that a lot. the british are visually kind of brutal.

i have no idea what the significance of this wall is.

inside this building some guy was actually doing PAPERWORK. it’s like when you find out your teacher is human.

next page: ravens!

Tower of London
The Ravens

!!!!!

i think this is my favorite one.

i like this one too though.

The Jewel House

ridiculous lions and unicorns were EVERYWHERE. you’d think they were symbols of the nation or something. and what’s with the unicorn’s bling? sheesh. somebody should have told it chains are out.

next page: armory

The Armory

it’s a good thing they had a toilet, because i really had to go.

where the poo goes… onto people below!

effigy of guy fawkes. clever!

these wooden guys were just hanging out drinking ale at the armory.

Tower of London
The Armory

the armory was one of those places you never can leave. we kept going for the exit and it would just take us to a different level of the museum.

again, sucks to be this guy.

a cluster of nails and other stuff melted together after a fire. this was around the time we realized that the british apparently keep EVERYTHING because it might have significance someday.

kickin’ pillars, eh?

i… think this was taken in the armory but i have no idea what it’s of.

next page: some of the living quarters

Tower of London
The Living Quarters

the private prayer room of some dude whose name i should probably know.

little personal chapel area.

luckily ken had some floo powder on him.

this was pretty amazing… some of the carvings of people imprisoned in the towers. some very intellectual, some artistic…

next page: wandering randomly around london!

Various Wanderings

EAT ended up saving our lives. i wanted to hold out for a pasty, or chips, or even a jacket potato but every place we went to didn’t have pasties or chips, and were OUT of jacket potatoes! eventually we found this goat cheese and sweet potato pie, and settled for it because we were hungry. it was really good though.

i think this is supposed to be st. george and the dragon?

fish!

london… home of ugly babies

and really ugly fishpeople!

what do they call a guy who can’t hold on to his porpoise?

the most bizarre statue i think i’ve ever seen.

“pardon me, but have you seen the rest of my head? i’m quite perturbed.”

next page: st. pauls, tea, and buckingham palace!

St. Paul’s Cathedral
we didn’t actually go inside st. paul’s, knowing we’d see other cathedrals and being REALLY exceptionally stingy that

day for some reason. so i took pictures of the statue outside:

Afternoon Tea at Fortnum & Mason’s
yeah, we went to the most expensive place to have tea that doesn’t have a dress code. sue us, we’re tourists. 🙂

Buckingham Palace

“why won’t the queen mum return my calls?”

this is so expressive. i loved it. part of the queen victoria memorial.

how did they sculpt my life’s aspirations so accurately?

next page: accosted by animals at st. james park!

St. James Park

the squirrels let us get so close. i kept wondering how close…

we got our answer. bold little buggers. richard was just telling me though that he once saw a squirrel jump on a woman in this park 🙂

this picture cracks me up for some reason.

ken watches the greylag geese

goose roadblock

lorenz had good taste in animal companions.

this waterfowl was strange. it had white skeleton-like feet! never got a great picture of it though.

next page: goose stampede!

St. James Park

then the man with the bread came and it all went to hell.

don’t they look like fat little nazi stormtroopers? or maybe people in the T station.

the bread eventually ran out.

i’d love to be the caretaker of this park! i assume that’s who this cottage is for?

next page: big ben and london at night!

Big Ben and the London Eye

around this time it started raining. it all felt so romantic. and wet.

Back to Blackheath

ah, london at night.

london. where even the lampposts need excessive decorations with cherubs and such.

where even stuff left on the sidewalk is picturesque.

chips at last!!!!!! we got them in blackheath though. grrr, london, grrr.
