sf zoo and a bonus picture!
remember that zoo trip in san francisco last month with sara and karl? here’s the pictures!

crouching birdies

hidden ostrich

we managed to get to the zoo after feeding time, which is the only logical reason for nearly all the animals being just completely zonked.

i mean, look at them. they look like the morning after a wild party. and a squirrel is stealing their food while they sleep it off.

“whoa… what did i do last night? …and why’s all my food gone?”

this dikdik was shy!

apparently san francisco zoo has this “feed the birds” thing, but you have to pay for it, so i took a picture of the glorious “bird tree” from the outside. i think that woman noticed me and was posing.

note the headless birds.

the spectacled bear. now i know they’re just making up names.

this is the best picture i could get of my favorite cat as a child, the snow leopard. lazy bastard.

they were really tooting their own horns with this captive breeding thing.

to ridiculous levels…

the wonderful thing about tiggers… is that they take horrible pictures. wait, that’s not a wonderful thing…

no day is complete without an embarrassing picture of karl.

karl got really excited about this otter toy because he is a perv, but only ken would pose for the picture.

piles of lemurs!

sara got frisky with the lemur statue…

at the gift store… (ken took this second one)

out the window of a speeding car.

at the tea and cakes place on geary.

sara has juggling geese!

BONUS PICTURE: getting ready to draw my gunny pigs. i am a cruel owner. ken took this one too.

lake solano
we went out to lake solano for a late morning swim a few weeks ago.

we decided the lake was a little freezing… (ken took this)

(ken took this)
so i took a bunch of pictures OF the lake in about thigh-high water instead.

the “tadpole salad bar”

i made ken pose, but he won’t let me post my favorite picture from the shoot.

there was an abundance of wildlife there, including:

peacock family!

goose!

goosestep

here i am trying to pretend i have food in my hand. the peachicks were pretty precocious (sorry for lame alliteration– it was unintentional) (ken took this)

not that brave though.

they must get it from their parents.

i don’t think i’ve ever seen them do this before!

showing off my new birdy feather (which my hair rather freakily kept swallowing up. i feel like marge simpson sometimes)!

little guy was nice enough to pose for like .00000001 second

we took a break to eat, hoping the lake would warm up a bit later.

ken brought goat cheese!

food is sensed on shore, and the march of the waterfowl begins.

i guess you can’t really march very well on water, but you get my point.
after lunch we still found the lake freezing, so took a small hike around. i took pictures of trees.

bamboo was found.

i think we’re lost.

nope, here’s more of the lake!

at some point i decided i was crazy and went in up to my neck. it’s not so bad once your nervous system shuts down.

(ken took this)

lake self-portraits

we went across the road to the campgrounds to see if the lake was any warmer there (my wishful thinking). we saw many amusing signs though.

that explains gidget’s morning routine!

i think anya made this sign.

kind of ridiculous.
